“Although probably the hardest thing I have EVER done in my life he is also the most rewarding! “
Bradley Donohoe, Trisomy 13, 7/21/1985, Pensacola, FL, USA
29 years ago today he busted into this world 10 weeks premature with a diagnosis not many had even heard of and NO ONE gave him even a 5% chance of survival! “incompatible with life” they ALL said! You sure showed them didn’t ya B? Although probably the hardest thing I have EVER done in my life he is also the most rewarding! Happy Birthday B R A D! We love you so much!
Bradley was born with what they thought was “fetal hydantoid syndrome”. Boy were they wrong. Looking back I think to myself if they had ever done a karyotype we probably would not have received the care I insisted on. A family friend and his dr urged us to do more testing. Sure enough on his 12th bday – full t13. They must have done the test 10 times as not one dr believed it. We were sent to Shands in Gainesville and sure enough…T13 again.
I wish I could tell you every instance of his story but the fact of the matter is I am blessed beyond words to have him. It’s hard, I won’t lie. But so much better than we could have ever expected. Diapers for a 6ft 2in child are very expensive. But again we wouldn’t change a thing. The last year has been VERY hard with extra dx’s poured on but we plug away the best we know how and will continue to .
Thank you for letting me tell you about my “B”. I am not good with words but I hope I have expressed just a little bit of what is the total joy of my life!
