Hayden Strong “Small but Mighty, Fragile but Fierce”
Hayden Brown, Trisomy 13, 01/04/2017 to 05/31/2017, Charlotte, NC
My husband Tim and I welcomed our first daughter, Hayden Elizabeth Brown into the world on January 4, 2017 weighing 7 lbs. 9 oz. – (sharing her dad’s birthday) and defeating all of the odds stacked against her. Hayden was diagnosed with full Trisomy 13 at 20 weeks gestation by amniocentesis. Although the odds were stacked against her since birth she amazed us with her tenacity and strength. Hayden was born with a moderate size ventricular septal defect or hole in her heart, a medium size ASD, a duplicated collection system in her kidneys, microphthalmia eye abnormality with underdeveloped eyes, a soft cleft palate, a small omphalocele, rocker bottom feet, and an extra small appendage on her hands. She spent her first 3 weeks of life in the NICU, followed by 2 months at home and then another 47 days in the PICU following her GJ placement surgery and omphalocele removal.
She continued to fight the good fight until she went to be with the Lord and gained her angel wings 5 days before her 5 month birthday on May 31, 2017.
There are no words to describe the unbelievable pain and heartbreak. Hayden was small but mighty, fragile but fierce, our light, our love, the center of our world, and our little miracle. She touched so many lives in the 5 months we were fortunate enough to witness. Tim and I are so incredibly blessed for each and everyday that we were able to spend with our precious angel and are unbelievably proud to be her parents. We find comfort that she is in no more pain and that one day we will see her again and we cling to hope that we have her tenacity and strength to continue this journey. She will forever be in our hearts.
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I set you apart. Jeremiah 1:5
