Milan’s Story

“Milan now attends Grassfield Elementary School and is spoiled by her older brother and sisters.”

Milan Myrick, Trisomy 18, 11/2/2010, Chesapeake, Va

Milan Myrick T18 age 4I received a call from my obstetrician after a routine prenatal visit saying that something was wrong. This pregnancy was planned as it was to be the closing chapter of that part of our lives. We were sent to EVMS for further testing which confirmed that our princess had Trisomy 18 with a hole in her heart, tumors on her brain, malformed hands and rocker bottom feet. The news also came with a recommendation of termination of pregnancy. 17 weeks in, devastated and confused I sought the Word of God for peace and clarity. Our family began our biggest faith journey that we continue to live today. Milan was born November 2, 2010 at 39 wks, planned c-section as per my demand with full support from Norfolk Sentara Hospital with an immediate transport to Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters in our home state of Virginia. We spent 3mths in NICU with one successful open heart surgery to repair her VSD. We were discharged in February with support from Edmarc Hospice for Children. As we prepare to celebrate 4 years of beating the odds, we do not forget to celebrate the grace and mercy of our Lord. Thankful for everyone who has continued to love us and are part of our lives through good days and bad. Milan now attends Grassfield Elementary School and is spoiled by her older brother and sisters. Be encouraged…
