Mollie’s Story

 “She’s my favorite.”

Mollie Havlik, Trisomy 13, 12/22/2005, Ann Arbor, MI

Mollie Havlik T13 8yoHi my name is Anna! I’m Mollie’s sister. Mollie has Trisomy 13, and her story was also shared on: I thought I’d update it for those who may have been on that site or just curious people. Mollie is now 8 years old, going into 2nd grade, and will be 9 in December. Over the last year she has started having seizures which is common with kids with this syndrome at this age.

Recently she broke her femur from a seizure during the night; we got great care from many nurses and other people at the University of Michigan. Mollie is practically mobile again, although we aren’t sure if she’ll ever be able to put pressure on her right leg. She’s so bubbly and full of life; the only show she’ll watch is Bear in The Big Blue House which was popular in the early 2000s when I grew up. It was really hard finding it on DVD since we had gotten rid of cassettes.

Recently she’s enjoyed a show we found on Netflix called Daniel Tigers Neighborhood.  It’s based of off Mr. Rogers neighborhood, and it’s pretty bearable to watch. She has no speech center but you can always tell when she wants something she has little things she does for everything. When she is thirsty she makes slurping noises, when she wants to be pushed around in her wheelchair or get out of bed she’ll yell or bang to get our attention. My dad and I (15) are Mollies favorites.  Sometimes only I can get her to go to sleep. She’s my favorite. If you have any questions feel free to contact me: thanks for reading!!
