About Deborah A. Bruns Ph.D:
Deborah A. Bruns is Professor and Off-campus program coordinator for the Special Education program in the School of Education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She teaches coursework in collaborating with families with children with disabilities as well as early childhood special education assessment and curriculum methods. Prior to this position, Dr. Bruns worked as an educational therapist at the New York Foundling Hospital. Several of the young children she worked with there were diagnosed with trisomy 18. Since its launch in 2007, Dr. Bruns has been the Principal Investigator of the Tracking Rare Incidence Syndromes (TRIS) project.
About Alexis Petrilla:
Alexis Petrilla graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Services in December 2019. She is interested in pursuing behavior analysis at the graduate level. Ms. Petrilla currently works at Five Star Industries as the Community Day Program instructor overseeing direct support professionals working with adults with disabilities. She is extremely thankful to have the opportunity to work on the TRIS project.
