What is something unique and special about your child with trisomy that you wish more people knew?
It’s hard to put into words how unique and special Dallas is. A boy who had the cards stacked against him before he was even born has grown to be the most happy, loving, sassy little boy who is so determined to keep thriving and progressing. He’s the most amazing little superhero and I’m so proud of everything he’s accomplished so far and I know he has so much more in store!
Why do you believe raising awareness about trisomy conditions is important, and how can others make a difference?
It’s important to raise awareness as these conditions are often so rare that most people have never heard of them. Raising awareness allows these kids and their milestones be seen and by raising awareness and getting their stories out it helps the next generation. When pregnant with Dallas I based a lot of my hope and advocating off what I was seeing from other trisomy families stories and experiences.
During Trisomy Awareness Month, what message would you like to share with the world about your family’s journey and the trisomy community?
Understand that although we’ve had a difficult and long road to get to where we are every step was worth it. So much about my life and way of thinking has changed after experiencing the impact of having a child with complex needs. This is our normal and I urge more people to find more empathy and a greater understanding on how much we love our miracles and why we advocate so hard for them.
