What is something unique and special about your child with trisomy that you wish more people knew?
We believe that Krissy chose this life and it is our job to help her live her best life. She is here to teach those around her about love and strength and belief. In spite of the fact that she requires fulltime care, Krissy still gives far more than she requires.
Why do you believe raising awareness about trisomy conditions is important, and how can others make a difference?
Raising awareness can be as simple as telling your child’s story. So many of us come to the journey having never heard the words “trisomy 18” and likely never considered that this could happen in our lives. And suddenly we’re in an unknown place feeling alone and lost. At least I know we were. By sharing your story you can help a family know that they aren’t alone, regardless of where they are in their trisomy journey.
During Trisomy Awareness Month, what message would you like to share with the world about your family’s journey and the trisomy community?
Today Krissy turns 25 years old! Consider that. Krissy, full trisomy 18 is celebrating a QUARTER OF A FREAKING CENTURY on this spinning planet. Seriously, think about it. We weren’t just told Krissy wouldn’t survive, they treated us as if we were being unrealistic to believe there was even hope we would take her home from the hospital. And today we celebrate this precious young lady who brings laughter to our lives and sunshine to even the stormiest days. When our journey began we would never have dared to even consider that we would be here today, listening to Krissy’s precious giggles, chirps, coos and other assorted musical numbers and celebrating 25 years of love.
Trisomy awareness: The more we share, the better prepared the next family might be!
